The Executive Director's Message

Welcome to our official Website. Action for Development (ACFODE) is a National women’s rights organization founded on 19th November 1985 to provide a platform for effective debate and action on women’s rights, empowerment and gender equality in Uganda. ACFODE’s vision is ‘A just society where gender equality is a reality and its mission is to empower women, girls and influence legislation and policy for gender equality in Uganda.

As I look at the growth of Action for Development our inception in 1985, I am extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve and contribute. I am even more excited about our outlook for an equally promising future. We have successfully managed to establish ourselves as an organisation that empowers women, girls and influences legislation and policy for gender equality all over Uganda.

It is satisfying to know that we have the support of our partner organisations, government, our staff, donors and our community in acquiring the necessary resources to reach our goals. This collective support enables us to continue to launch new strategies and establish new partnerships.

On behalf of the Action for Development Board of Directors, the staff, the donors and our many volunteers over the years, I like to thank everyone who has supported us in this journey of empowering women, girls and influencing legislation and policy for gender equality all over Uganda. With joint efforts, I believe that we can achieve “A just society where gender equality is a reality”.

Action for Development’s programs and activities focus on four main pillars which are; policy advocacy and research, leadership development, transformative Social-Cultural Change and Economic Empowerment.

I wish you a good time as you read about our work premised on the above pillars. Should you have any questions about our work, kindly get in touch with us through the contact information or contact form provided on the “Contact Us” page.
