Protection of Women’s and Children’s Rights in Uganda- PWACRU (2020-2023)

At ACFODE we believe that women and children have the right to live in a safe environment and this is why we, in partnership with We Effect and with support from the European Union are implementing the PWACRU project. Through this project, we aim to ensure a policy, legislative and institutional environment supportive of women and children’s rights by 2023 in the districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Rubanda, Rukiga, Bukomasimbi and Kalungu.

We are focusing on contributing to the protection and promotion of women and children’s rights through strengthening the capacities of Civil Society Organisations and duty bearers to eliminate violence against women and children in Uganda.

Our efforts are focusing on improving laws and accountability, catalyzing behaviour and attitude change and strengthening policy advocacy using the SASA (Start Awareness Support Action) methodology to train community activists and roll out sensitization campaigns against negative cultural practices and advocate for violence-free homes and communities.

With our model couple approach, which has been refined over the years, we are able to address the complex issues that create threats to women and children in their homes and communities. These model couples will become advocates of women and children’s rights in their communities.
