ACFODE seeks to create a safer environment and foster a culture of respect and equality, ultimately reducing instances of SGBV and promoting the well-being of young girls in and out of school. It is implementing a project that aims to prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among young girls in Kyaka II refugee settlement and its neighboring communities while establishing an effective SGBV structure.
Targeting 70% refugees and 30% of the refugee host community, the project focuses on the Itambabininga Zone in the settlement and two villages in the host community, the project employs various methodologies including capacity building, media and stakeholder engagements, learning and reflection, and a model couple approach. These efforts aim to address gender power relations and promote positive social norm change at individual, household, and community levels.
The project is being implemented in partnership with EIRENE and BMZ through school-based GBV prevention clubs, listeners’ clubs for out-of-school youth, and mentorship sessions with couples (parents of adolescents), the project also includes quarterly follow-up sessions with GBV prevention and listeners’ clubs. Additionally, it provides psycho-social support to survivors and conducts home visits within the settlement and host communities
